ETDA organizes Hackathon: Unlocking the Future of Digital ID Seeking Innovative Solutions for Juristic Person and Foreigners
The Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), in collaboration with public and private sector partners, has launched the "ETDA Hackathon: Unlocking the Future of Digital ID." Under the theme "Inspiring Ideas, Unlocking the Future of Digital ID," the competition aims to discover innovative solutions that enhance Digital ID accessibility and efficiency for juristic persons and foreigners. Tech enthusiasts with innovative ideas are invited to contribute their expertise in creating a more secure and reliable digital ecosystem for online transactions. Applications are open now through March 31, 2025.

Dr. Chaichana Mitrpant, Executive Director of ETDA, stated, "ETDA is committed to driving the adoption of Digital ID—digital identity verification and authentication—as a fundamental infrastructure for advancing the country’s digital economy and society. Our goal is to build trust and confidence in online transactions that are accessible to everyone." As part of our strategy, we have successfully implemented Phase 1 of the Digital ID framework (2022–2024), laying a strong foundation in several key areas. These include increasing the number of Digital ID users in Thailand through “ThaID”, the primary Digital ID service for individuals developed by the Department of Provincial Administration.
Building on this progress, Phase 2 of the Digital ID framework (2025–2027), focuses on enhancing accessibility, security, and inclusivity across all sectors. Key objectives include: 1) Expanding access to government services via Digital ID. 2) Enhancing the credibility of Digital ID to reduce fraud and identity forgery. 3) Supporting business transactions for juristic persons using Digital ID. 4) Developing a data-sharing mechanism between businesses and government agencies. 5) Establishing _a robust Digital ID infrastructure for foreigners. 6) Implementing a monitoring and risk assessment framework for Digital ID service providers.

By 2027, ETDA anticipates the public will be able to use Digital ID to access at least 1,000 e-services. At the same time, Digital ID will play a crucial role in reducing identity fraud and financial scams on online platforms. It is also expected to gain widespread adoption across both the public and private sectors, especially with “Document Wallet” becoming a key tool for future transactions. All highlights that driving Digital ID is not just about technology—it is a fundamental pillar that will enable Thailand to fully transition into a digital economy.
"ETDA Hackathon" – A Platform to ignite Digital ID Innovation
Despite significant progress, several challenges remain—particularly for juristic persons and foreigners, who face barriers to accessing Digital ID services. These include electronic verification of power of attorney for corporate representatives and the lack of a standardized approach to foreign identity verification. To address these challenges, ETDA has partnered with key organizations, including: The Department of Provincial Administration, The Department of Business Development, The Revenue Department, The Customs Department, The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), The Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC), The Permanent Secretary Offices of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Ministry of Public Health, The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), The Telecommunications Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage and Techsauce Media Co., Ltd. Together, they are launching the "ETDA Hackathon: Unlocking the Future of Digital ID", under the theme "Igniting Ideas, Unlocking the Future of Digital ID." This competition seeks to discover innovative Digital ID solutions that will enhance digital identity verification for juristic persons and foreigners, two groups that play a vital role in the economy but continue to face challenges in conducting electronic transactions. The Hackathon aims to attract talented innovators and solution developers to innovative ideas that make online services more accessible and secure while addressing the needs of both businesses and the public.
