Thailand National Root Certification Authority (Thailand NRCA) hosted the second session of the CA Knowledge Sharing Series, entitled “Knowledge is Power, Sharing is Impact.”
On February 19, 2025, the Thailand National Root Certification Authority (Thailand NRCA) hosted the second session of the CA Knowledge Sharing Series, entitled “Knowledge is Power, Sharing is Impact.” This event was organized by the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) and brought together over 43 representatives from five Subordinate Certificate Authorities (Sub CAs): Thai Digital ID, Internet Thailand, National Telecom, Bangkok MSP, and Turnkey Communication. The primary objective of the meeting was to facilitate knowledge sharing, provide operational updates, and foster discussions aimed at promoting the utilization of digital certificates, enhancing cybersecurity, and building trust in electronic transactions.
During the event, Thailand NRCA presented significant updates regarding key initiatives and planned activities for the year, along with an impressive statistic indicating a 718.55% growth in digital certificate usage in 2024. This growth underscores the rising demand for robust security solutions, including those for identity verification, digital signatures, and website security across government agencies, private enterprises, and the general public. Thailand NRCA remains committed to collaborating with certificate providers to bolster trust and security in online transactions.
A critical discussion highlighted updates to the Certificate Policy (CP) and Certification Practice Statement (CPS), revised to version 4.5. This revision aligns with the standards set by the CA/Browser Forum, WebTrust requirements, and various Root Store security measures. The updated version has received official approval from the Thailand National Root Certification Authority Policy Committee, ensuring a standardized approach among all certificate providers.
In addition, Thailand NRCA unveiled its newly revamped website, which has been designed to enhance usability and ensure seamless integration with Thailand Digital ID (ThaiD). This improvement streamlines the registration process for certificate providers, significantly reducing the need for in-person verification, decreasing travel time, and minimizing paperwork. The website also facilitates quick and easy access to information regarding electronic certificates and NRCA services, improving global accessibility.
Looking ahead to the remainder of 2025, Thailand NRCA has outlined several key initiatives, including the continuation of the CA Knowledge Sharing Series and the execution of the 2nd Party Audit. In this audit, NRCA, as Thailand’s Root CA, will perform compliance assessments on digital certificate providers to ensure adherence to established policies and best practices. Furthermore, the Annual Thailand National Root Certification Authority Policy Committee Meeting is scheduled for the end of the year to evaluate new applicants for electronic certificate providers and review the CP/CPS guidelines in relation to evolving standards. A major annual event is also planned.
Prior to the conclusion of the CA Knowledge Sharing Series #2: Sub CAs Meeting 2025, Thailand NRCA conducted a survey among digital certificate providers to gather insights that will contribute to future expansion, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and in-house training programs.
Thailand NRCA is dedicated to positioning digital certificates as a vital component of cybersecurity, minimizing administrative costs, and expediting electronic transactions with utmost confidence.
